Q: What information should I provide the therapist prior to my appointment?
A: When setting up the appointment let the therapist know how long of a session you are booking and what type of massage you will be receiving. You will need to fill out a short health history form prior to your first visit, please arrive 5-10 minutes early to complete this. If you are feeling ill on your appointment day it is best to reschedule your massage for another day.
Q: What should I do when I'm on the massage table?
A: Let your therapist know if there are specific areas that he/she can focus on, and areas to avoid. Usually this will be discussed prior to you getting on the table, but if you would like things done differently, feel free to say so. Try to relax your neck and arms and legs rather than "help" the therapist during movements and stretches. At any point pressure is too deep, or too light, let your therapist know. Pressure is a very subjective experience, what is deep to some may be light to others, and vice versa. You will not offend the therapist by letting them know you would like a different pressure.
Q: How can I maximize the benefits of my massage?
A: It is always good to drink a lot of water the day you get a massage, before and after is preferable, but certainly after. This will help flush the toxins out of your body. A walk or some very light exercise can aid in getting out toxins as well. Try not to do any heavy lifting or activity as massage can temporarily loosen ligaments, which could result in injury. Performing simple stretches can help the contracted areas stay elongated long after the massage. Your therapist can show you stretches pertainable to your needs.
Q: Will I be sore?
A: You might be sore for a day or two after a deep tissue massage, or if you received deep work in a certain area. This is a sign of the tissue re-healing in more functional, moveable manner.
